Capacity Building
Strategic Pillars
Capacity Building
Quality healthcare depends on the people who deliver it. Through our Capacity Building pillar, AMAN strengthens the knowledge, skills, and confidence of healthcare providers while supporting stronger health systems across Pakistan. Its capacity building work equips frontline healthcare providers and communities with the skills, knowledge, and support required to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care. Through sustained engagement across Pakistan, AMAN bridges the gap between policy, practice, and community need, ensuring that training translates into improved health outcomes.
AMAN conducts comprehensive capacity-building initiatives across Pakistan, reaching urban and underserved settings alike. These efforts focus on essential and emergency obstetric and neonatal care, including labour care using WHO – Labour Care Guide, post-abortion care, postpartum haemorrhage management through bundle approaches, instrumental delivery and caesarean section practices, infection prevention, and newborn survival interventions such as Helping Babies Breathe and Kangaroo Mother Care. In parallel, AMAN prioritises reproductive health and rights through training on family planning, postpartum and post-abortion family planning, male engagement, and Values Clarification and Attitude Transformation (VCAT).
Its Postpartum Family Planning (PPFP) work demonstrates what sustained provider capacity building can achieve: across intervention sites, 179,508 women received a postpartum intrauterine contraceptive device across 648,126 deliveries, representing an uptake of 27.7%. As a national pioneer of PPFP in Pakistan, AMAN has supported the large-scale integration of immediate postpartum family planning within public sector maternity services, generating implementation evidence and strengthening provider capacity to deliver high-quality PPFP counselling and services at the point of childbirth. This technical expertise continues to inform our capacity-building approach, ensuring healthcare providers are equipped to deliver respectful, rights-based, and evidence-informed care.
Capacity building is reinforced through continuous mentoring and supportive supervision, enabling sustained skill retention, quality improvement, and accountability beyond one-time trainings. By combining technical training with ongoing mentorship, supportive supervision, and continuous quality improvement, AMAN ensures that investments in human resources translate into durable system-level impact. Through these efforts, AMAN strengthens healthcare providers and communities nationwide, building resilient health systems and sustainable capacity for quality care.
