Supporting Adolescent Health

Adolescence is a defining stage of life, when health behaviours, knowledge, and attitudes established today can shape wellbeing for years to come. AMAN works with adolescents, families, educators, healthcare providers, and communities to strengthen health literacy, promote preventive healthcare, and support informed health decisions. Its work spans preventive health, school and community engagement, and digital learning, creating opportunities for young people to build the knowledge, confidence, and skills they need to navigate health and wellbeing throughout their lives.

Engaging Young People Through Digital Platforms

AMAN uses digital platforms to expand access to health information and strengthen health literacy beyond face-to-face settings. Bakhabar Noujawan, its youth digital learning platform, provides free, self-paced content on reproductive health, relationships, consent, and essential life skills. Together with the digital communication work embedded in programmes such as HPV vaccination, these platforms give young people additional ways to build knowledge, ask questions, and make informed decisions about their health and future.

Empower, Prevent, Protect: Advocacy for HPV Vaccination to Safeguard Young Girls from Cervical Cancer

AMAN’s Empower, Prevent, Protect initiative supports the introduction and uptake of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in Pakistan. AMAN contributed to advocacy for the introduction of HPV vaccination and its inclusion in the country’s Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), helping advance cervical cancer prevention as a national public health priority. Following this milestone, AMAN has worked across eight districts and 25 union councils with government, education, healthcare, civil society, and community partners to translate national policy into community-level action and build confidence around vaccination. Introducing the HPV vaccine was only the first step. Building trust among families and communities was essential to successful implementation. Through strategic advocacy, healthcare provider engagement, behaviour change communication, and partnerships with community institutions such as schools, AMAN has worked to strengthen confidence in HPV vaccination and create the conditions for informed decision-making. Its work brings together adolescent girls, parents, teachers, healthcare providers, vaccinators, and other stakeholders through school and community sessions, mobilisation, and engagement with the health system.

Communication is central to this work, helping young people, families, and communities understand HPV vaccination and address misinformation. AMAN has used HPV Myth Busters, animated educational content, social media, influencer engagement, reaction videos, and a multilingual chatbot in English, Urdu, and Sindhi, alongside engagement with vaccinators and healthcare providers.

Reaching Adolescents Through Schools and Communities

AMAN works with partners including Zindagi Trust and Kiran Foundation, as well as public and private schools across Sindh, to engage students, teachers, parents, and caregivers around adolescent health and preventive care. AMAN worked with Zindagi Trust and Meri Sehat on From Classrooms to Communities: Leveraging AI and School Children to Transform Family Health, using schools as entry points for health awareness, medical camps, and wider family engagement. It is also working with Zindagi Trust and Kiran Foundation through school-based engagement, with plans to extend this work to the Shangla campus. AMAN has also engaged children with Down syndrome, their parents, and school administration to make health information and preventive care more accessible and inclusive.
